WOD: Death By Burpees

Since MCO started, I’ve been looking for ways to motivated myself to stay active. One of the things I’ve done is join a WhatsApp workout group. The leader sets a WOD (workout of the day) the evening before and we do it the next time. If there is a record to note, we share it if we want to.

We repeat some of the workouts, so I figured I should start making a note of my timings and records so I can see if I’m improving. If you want to see what we’re doing, I’ve groups these WODs here.

Death by Burpees

This is a weekend WOD which I really like because it’s a great cardio fitness test. It sounds easy until you do it.

How it works:

The video above explains how it works pretty clearly. In a nutshell, this is what you have to do:

  • First minute – 1 burpee.
  • Second minute – 2 burpees.
  • Third minute – 3 burpees.
  • Fourth minute – 4 burpees.
  • Keep going, adding one burpee every minute, until you fail to complete the number of burpees for that minute.

This was my first attempt (28/3/20):

After 14 minutes, I borrowed time from my next minute to rest and couldn’t complete 15 burpees by the 15th minute. So my record is 14 minutes (plus however burpees I completed from the next minute which I lost track of because I was too tired to think).

Update 4/4/20

I tried Death by Burpees again and completed 15 minutes with 3 seconds to spare. Technically, I could have continued into the 16th minute, but I was too tired to keep going so I stopped. Let’s see if we can beat this record next week.
